My Morning Skincare Routine

We all know it’s so important to take care of our skin. It’s our canvas for our makeup, and a lot of the time, it’s a reflection of our overall health. In order to keep my skin smooth and soft, I drink lots of water and try to eat a healthy balanced diet. But because of the lifestyles we all have in 2016, and the high levels of air pollution in cities like London and Dublin, our skin is left feeling a little worse for wear.

This is why it’s so important to have a skincare¬†regime in practice. I use Clinique because it’s such an established skin care brand and it just works really well for me. Whether you have dry, oily, combination, or normal skin, the Clinique team will have a skincare routine that works for you. I have relatively normal skin and in the winter it can get a bit dry, so my products are tailored to that.

Step One – Liquid Facial Soap

The first part of my morning skincare routine is the Clinique Liquid Facial Soap. This is just to wash my face and get rid of any dirt or makeup that might not have come off when I cleansed the night before. I splash warm water on my face before applying the product to open my pores, and then wash the product off with cold water to close them again.

Step Two – Clarifying Lotion (No. 3)

I apply this product to a cotton pad and sweep it all over my face and neck. It works as a toner and sweeps away any dry flakes or excess oil on your face so that your moisturiser than absorb better into your skin.

Step Three – Moisturising Gel

After I’ve let the clarifying lotion dry into my skin for about 1-2 minutes, I’ll apply the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel. I find it a lot lighter than their Moisturising Lotion, which works much better for me. Personally, I don’t like when products feel very heavy or make your skin feel coated.

Step Four – Charlotte’s Magic Cream

This is quite a pricey product, but I can honestly tell you I think it’s worth every penny! I have been using it for eight months and I’m still on my first tub of it. It’s obviously very long-lasting because you don’t need that much of it. It’s called a ‘treat and transform moisturiser’, and you can read about its benefits here. It also contains SPF15, which is essential even in the city for a pale Irish girl like me!

Step Five – Wonderglow Primer

This is another Charlotte Tilbury product that I’m totally obsessed with. It gives you such a natural glow either on its own or underneath your makeup. You can also put it on over your makeup if you want a little more of a glow. I normally reapply it on my cheeks and brow bone in the late afternoon if my makeup needs a top-up.

Step Six – ThisWorks Light Time Open Eyes

This is the last step in my morning skincare routine before applying makeup. Our eyes age so much faster than the rest of our faces so we need to  factor them into our skincare regime. The ThisWorks product that I use brightens tired eyes and also tightens the skin around them to help fight skin fatigue.
