It appears that ‘And Other Bullshit’ is going to become a regular series on my blog. Today I want to talk about something that, quite frankly, I have never understood. That is, the concept of trying too hard.
All of my life, I have been encouraged to dream big. Reach for the stars. Work your ass off and maybe someday all your aspirations will materialise. With that came my adventurous side, and I’ve been ready to try almost anything in order to succeed. Why wouldn’t I? Why would I not give my absolute all so that I can live the way I want to every day?
Of course I try hard. Why the hell would you ever not want to give everything you have to bettering yourself, or achieving your goals??
Then why does everyone think trying too hard is a bad thing? Why is putting in effort to your dreams and goals so horrible? To me, it feels like people who say things like “she tries too hard” are jealous of the success you’re having. They’re jealous that you’re doing well and maybe their own life isn’t really going to plan. Maybe they feel insecure about their own achievements or their life in general. Either way, I feel like I have to say this:
You. Can. Never. Try. Too. Hard.
Trying hard is a wonderful thing. It’s a sign of passion, of commitment, of determination. You should be proud of the hard work that you do. Be proud of the commitment and dedication you show every day and wave you “try-hard” flag proud. Because who’s business is it but yours what you try to accomplish?
